  • Stop smoking for just 20 minutes and your heart rate will start to return to normal
  • Smokers’ lungs are filled with carbon monoxide (a poison). Within half a day of quitting, your lungs will have the same level of carbon monoxide as a non-smoker
  • Sometime in the first three months of quitting, your chances of heart attack drops
  • As fast as within one month of quitting, your shortness of breath decreases
  • One year after quitting, you have half the chances of heart disease as a smoker

  • Your risk of stroke returns to that of a non-smoker
  • Your risks of various cancers (lung, mouth, esophagus, bladder, stomach) decrease
